Review: The Demon’s Deception

demons deceptionReviewed by Shelly

I read the stories in this series back to back and it made for one heck of a ride. For a novella, Adler got a big bang out of so few words. This is my absolute favorite story in the series. It’s always good to see the other side of the conflict, and with Demons taking up space on the first three stories, it’s only fair that it’s time for the Fae to have their say.

Full of secrets, Barbas – the Demon of Healing, will give and do most anything to keep them. But there comes a time when he decides that his secrets can no longer bind him. Aine, a Fae Princess, has her own problems with her father, the King. I think he’s going a little crazy but hopefully it’s lack of ‘the sex’ and if he can stop killing folks long enough to go get some I think he’ll be alright. –Okay, I’m off that horse now.– Aine is also a truthsayer who no one wants to touch and that makes for a lonely existence, but it all changes when she meets Barbas. Can these two overcome being enemies and find their a happy place among their people?

For as much sex as this story had, there was a decent plot thrown in there too. Thanks Adler! Barbas was sent by his Prince to spy on the Fae. During his adventure, Barbas on his first day, meets Aine who unknowingly challenges him to not just spy but to find out the truth. The relationship between these two was tumultuous to say the least and that made for interesting reading. There wasn’t a great deal of angst because the Demons and Faes really, really hated each other and each side wanted total annihilation of the other. When you’ve got that going on, there’s no time for self doubt. Some of the characters from the prior stories did make an appearance. It’s always nice to catch on what folks are doing after their story is told.

I’m not sure if there’s another volume on the horizon, but I’ll tell ya that if there is, I hope it’s about the Fae King because I see interesting things in his future but either way I’m reading it.

Happy Reading folks!
