Review: Neanderthal Seeks Human

Neanderthal Seeks HumanReviewed by Carrie

I was in a reading slump when I picked up this book after remembering hearing good things about it on Twitter. Boy, am I glad I did.  This book is funny, a little nerdy, very cute with great sexual tension and a happy sigh-worthy HEA.

Janie Morris is having a bad day to end all bad days.  When Janie catches her boyfriend cheating on her and gives him the heave ho, out also goes the apartment she splits with him and her job as an accountant in his dad’s firm.    To complete her humiliation, she is escorted from the premises by the hot security guard, Sir McHotpants, which she’s been secretly eyeing for the past couple of weeks.

Fortunately, Quinn Sullivan is not just any security guard as he happens to be the owner of the firm that runs security for buildings.  Quinn is intrigued by Janie’s habit of blurting out inane bits of trivia when under emotional duress and finds himself wanting to protect this curious creature.  Their romance full of his quiet brooding alpha ways juxtaposed with Janie’s eccentric behavior and some snappy writing make their relationship a fun journey.

I think the author did an excellent job of balancing the heroine’s quirky neuroticism with enough sweet to make Janie lovable, not annoying. I loved Janie’s foot-in-mouth disease, as I have that particular affliction. I also loved that although Janie is cast as the shy quiet nerd, she has a lovely group of supportive friends and was not made out to be a loner, as is often the case.

Quinn is lovely as the besotted hero however, I really would have liked more background on him. The reader knows virtually nothing aside from the fact he’s rich and he used to be shady and now he’s not?  The epilogue is from his point of view but even then, it’s not enough.

There are some unbelievable points – especially the end scene with the knitting circle, but they were minor enough to just brush off.

Finally, the sexual tension was fabulous, but it would’ve been nice to get a paragraph or two payoff (I’m a shameless hussy).

If you need a palate cleanser between heavier books or are just looking for a fun read that will leave you with a smile, I highly recommend this read from a debut author.

  1. I love, love, LOVE this book! I’ve bought five copies for friends, it’s so good. I couldn’t put it down and I woke my hubby up at night when I was laughing. I just downloaded her second book for free on amazon yesterday and can’t wait to read it!

  2. I’m so glad you are spreading the word! The review for the second book should be up soon 🙂
