Review: Home for the Holidays by Jeaniene Frost

home for the holidaysReviewed by Jen

This is the novella is part of the reason the Night Huntress series is ending with seven books instead of nine.  Jeaniene Frost says this story was supposed to be the plot of a full length book, and I believe it. This didn’t feel like a novella.  It had a solid storyline and was definitely more than the standard vignette we get usually get from a series-short inside an anthology.

It starts with Cat planning a surprise birthday party for Bones, but, of course, it all goes to hell in a handbasket. Something bad happens to Annette, just as a mysterious stranger enters the picture. The man could be a wonderful addition to their lives, but Cat has reason to suspect that he is not all that he seems.  She ends up teaming up with Ian to dig up the truth and protect the people she loves.

I liked the story.  I didn’t find it at all predictable and it was fun watching Cat and Ian work together.  There was solid action and a good little mystery to keep me.  There is also a fun surprise for fans at the end.  Jeaniene Frost even manages to work in some sexy-times, although I had a little trouble buying into the circumstances where these two get busy.  It was great fun getting back into Cat’s head and it reminded me why I have always been a fan of the series.

If you haven’t read this one yet, before to check it out before you pick up Up From the Grave.  Frost has warned the events here will be referenced.

  1. I enjoyed this one too. It would have been a great full length novel.
