Review: The Professional Part 2 by Kresley Cole

professional 2Reviewed by Jen

Why in the name of all that is holy did I try to read a serial?  Clearly, I must have been influenced by my memories of Kresley Cole’s sexy Russian vampires. (I mean, who can resist those sexy Russian murmurs of endearment like milaya moya?) Yet for all the deliciousness of Sevastyan, his dirty needs, his stony exterior and his hidden vulnerability, I found this story to be an excruciating tease.  It barely started before it stopped.  (And believe me… it stopped. It didn’t end.) The lesson here: I should never read a serial until all the installments are ready for purchase.

We pick up right where we left off, with Natalie and Sevastyan in the sauna.  And there is some hot bondage action and screaming orgasms.  But for all the sexual compatibility Nat has with Sevastyan, the idea of being tied to him long term is unacceptable.  After all, she barely knows the man and he clearly has no plans to let her in.  On top of that, she is too young, too inexperienced, and it’s too soon for that kind of commitment.  All of this makes sense on Planet Earth.  But not on Planet Russian Mobster. Either she’s all in with the enforcer, or all out.

Bad things happen. It pushes our lovers closer together, but fear and hang-ups again drive them apart. They have sex. Lots of sex.  They have a battle of wills.  The book ends.  I throw the nook in the trashcan and rant around my house.

Here’s the thing.  I don’t even like BDSM.  Not even a little.  But the sexual dynamic didn’t bother me here because Natalie maintains the position of power despite her submission in the bedroom.  It will never be my brand of kink, but I can appreciate the hot factor here.  It’s the best part of the book, aside from the aloof -slash-broken- apex- predator thing Sevastyn has going on.  I also really like Natalie’s sexual empowerment. I just have some issues putting aside the logical issues Natalie brings up… and these cliffhanger things are most definitely not for me.

I have a feeling I would not be so frustrated overall reading three parts at once, but I would still have issues with everything being so all or nothing with these two.
