A tormented past has left Thane with an insatiable need for violence, making him the most dangerous assassin in the skies. He lives by a single code: no mercy. And as he unleashes his fury on his most recent captor, he learns no battle could have prepared him for the slave he rescues from his enemy’s clutches—a beauty who stokes the fires of his darkest desires.
Elin Vale has her own deep-rooted scars, and her attraction to the exquisite warrior who freed her challenges her every boundary. But Thane’s unwavering determination to protect her means she must face her greatest fears—and enter a world in which passion is power, and victory means breathtaking surrender.
The fabulous Ms Showalter is here today to answer all of my burning questions about the new book and some of her other series.
Jen: Hi Gena! It’s so great of you to stop by the blog to chat today! I hear rumors that Burning Dawn is the last book in the Angels of the Dark series. Say it isn’t so!
Gena: It isn’t so. Right now I have two more paranormal novels under contract, so, I’m only able to commit officially on those, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be more. Also, we have been playing with the idea of holding a vote to allow readers to decide the hero (or heroine) they’d most like me to write about next. I’m throwing my hat in for William! Or Xerxes. Or Bjorn. Or Neeka. Or another book from Thane’s point of view LOL I’m still head over heels for that man. He is merciless, savagely protective of Elin, and oh, his all-consuming desire for her…I can’t get enough!
Jen: Yay!! I want Xerxes! But only because I know Torin’s book is already in the pipeline. Can you give us any deets on his story?
Gena: Torin’s book, The Darkest Touch, was a challenge to write, and I actually tossed the first rough draft and took the second draft in a completely different direction. I also rewrote the beginning and ending two other times. But despite all that extra work, it was tons of fun. Readers have been waiting for him to get his hot hands on a woman, and oh, does he!
About The Darkest Touch:
Fierce immortal warrior. Host to the demon of Disease. Torin’s every touch causes sickness and death—and a worldwide plague. Carnal pleasure is utterly forbidden, and though he has always overcome temptation with an iron will, his control is about to shatter.
She is Keeley Cael. The Red Queen. When the powerful beauty with shocking vulnerabilities escapes from a centuries-long imprisonment, the desire that simmers between her and Torin is scorching. His touch could mean the end for her, but resisting her is the hardest battle he’s ever fought—and the only battle he fears he can’t win.
Jen: What about William????
Gena: William plays a part in Torin’s book. I wouldn’t doubt if my Willy the Ever Randy slowly worked his way into every book, every world, and soon, every scene LOL That’s just the kind of show-stealer he is.
Jen. Is it wrong that I want a Galen/ Legion book?
Gena: If it’s wrong, I don’t want you to be right. I really dig those two together. You’ll get to catch up with them both in The Darkest Touch.
Jen: I’ve heard you are launching a new YA series. Can you talk about it?
Gena: I am indeed launching a new YA series in 2015, and I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for a project. It’s set to be a trilogy and in this world, life as we know it is simply a dress rehearsal, where contracts are negotiated for the next life–real life, which begins after death, where two corporations are in power. The bulk of the story hit me like a bolt of lighting one day and I almost jumped out of my chair.
Jen: Between this new project and the Alice books, it feels like there aren’t as many “grown up” books on the horizon. Are you shifting focus? Do you prefer YA?
Gena: Actually, in 2014 there will be three adult stories from me (Burning Dawn, The Darkest Touch, and a novella in a contemporary anthology—watch for an announcement soon!) and only one young adult (The Queen of Zombie Hearts). In 2015, there will be three adult books (The Closer You Are, The Hotter You Burn—both are contemporary romances—and the next as yet untitled paranormal). There will be only one young adult, the first of the new series.
But yes, I do love writing young adult novels. They are a true passion for me.
Jen: This makes me so happy. I so greatly prefer adult PNR. Which character (out of all of your series) do you get the most fan feedback about?
Gena: It’s probably a tie between Torin and William, though Thane was edging in. Readers have wanted happily ever afters for these men. I’ve tortured them enough, I’m told.
Jen: Do you ever attend reader conventions?
Gena: I used to attend as many as I possibly could, but over the years I’ve tapered off, using the time to write instead.
Jen: Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions. You’re the best!
Gena: Thanks so much for having me over!
