Review: Her Best Laid Plans by Cara McKenna

I’ve been really digging reading the Cosmo Red Hot series being put out by Harlequin.  I don’t usually go for novellas but these are turning out to be fun and sexy stories that I have been looking forward to reading.  I love Cara McKenna’s unconventional characters and the woman can write some scorching sex.  To put the cherry on top, the story is set in Ireland (my fave)!

Jamie Webb is going to Ireland to get her groove back following a bad breakup.  She’s hoping a vacation fling might help get her back in the game after putting her life on hold so her boyfriend could achieve all his dreams only to dump her in the end.

All of her great plans come to a screeching halt when she finds herself in a rural town rather than the bustling city of Cork.  About to cry into her Guinness, Jamie is saved by the charming and handsome barman.

Connor Kelleher is more than willing to oblige the pretty American tourist.  Jamie and Connor agree to a short term fling but they quickly realize that their attraction goes a bit deeper than either of them expected.  As Jamie’s vacation comes to a close, they are left wondering what to do with their relationship as neither is willing to give up going back to school after having it on pause for years.

As always, McKenna’s sensual writing makes the reader a believer in the instant attraction.  Connor and Jamie were both refreshingly honest characters.  It was charming and lovely to experience their crush move along to something more.  I liked that they didn’t throw away their plans because of their feelings even though it was tempting.

In this story, McKenna didn’t reinvent the wheel.  She gave readers a relaxing escape for a couple hours in a beautiful setting with a sexy Irishman.  If you are able to resist all that, then you are a stronger person than I.
