Review: Mutiny of the Heart by Jennifer Bray-Weber

mutiny of the heartReview by Janell

I don’t usually read pirate books because they seem filled with alpha males and silly pirate talk and poor hygiene. I chose this book because it had a woman pirate captain, and I was curious if that situation would be believable. I’m here to tell you that I totally bought it, from corsets to cannon balls, and I might be willing to give pirate books another chance. [Read more…]

Review: Four Weddings and A Fiasco: The Wedding Date by Katy Regnery

four weddingsReviewed by Shelly

This novella by Kate Regnery is my first from her and I certainly didn’t expect to get weepy over a short story. Yet again, I’m surprised when I read a novella, the land of the quick, down and dirty, and get a decent storyline. Now that doesn’t mean I wasn’t clamoring for one because I really was. This is part of Amazon’s Kindle world where authors are picking up from other authors stories. This particular series is about the ‘Four Weddings and A Fiasco series by Lucy Kevin ’ at the Rose Chalet – I can’t tell you anything of value about that series because I’ve not read any of them but I can tell you that you can read this as a stand-alone because I did and enjoyed it tremendously. Review: A Good Debutante’s Guide to Ruin by Sophie Jordan

good debutanteReviewed by Jen

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a romance involving a step-brother and sister pairing.  It could easily get squicky.  Not only did this romance avoid any gross-out factor, I found it very engaging. There is just the right amount of longing and self-denial, mixed up with some delicious sexual tension.  It really worked for me. [Read more…]

Review: The Perfect Poison by Amanda Quick

perfect poisonReviewed by Janell

For my next foray into borrowed paperbacks, I read my first ever Jayne Ann Krentz book (Amanda Quick is a pen name). First to my adult knowledge, that is; it’s possible that I read one in my murky past of random books, but it didn’t stick. You know what? She’s a pretty good writer! Who knew? Besides the millions of people who’ve already read her, I mean. [Read more…]

Giveaway & Review: Lead by Kylie Scott

leadReviewed by Carrie

I didn’t think it was possible for me to love this series more, but then Scott goes and writes one of the best heroines since Bridget Jones.  Seriously, folks, just buy this book right now and then come back and we’ll gab about its awesomeness.

Jimmy Ferris, the lead singer of Stage Dive, has finally pulled himself out of the dark hole of alcohol and drug addiction.  To give everyone some peace of mind, he employs a “sober companion” to help keep him on the straight and narrow.  The problem is, Jimmy is so surly and difficult that he has a hard time getting anyone to stay.  Then… along comes Lena. Fueled by Lust: Lucien by Celeste Prater

lucienReviewed by Shelly

The 4th in the Celeste Prater’s Fueled by Lust series is Lucien’s story. If you’ve not read any in the series, then you’re missing out because this is a fun sci-fi, PNR, otherworldly – whatever you wanna call it good time. This could probably be read as a stand-alone, but there are so many overlapping characters from one story to the next that I think each should be read as part of the whole. If you’ve read any of my reviews from the previous stories you’ll know that I like what Prater is doing so far. This review will have some spoilers from the previous books. [Read more…]

Review: The Winter King by CL Wilson

winter kingReviewed by Jen

I enjoyed CL Wilson’s Tairen Soul series, but it’s been so long since her last book, I was a little worried that a little of the magic may be gone.  I’m happy to say my concerns were unfounded.  The Winter King gives us a look inside a brand new world surrounded by familiar themes.  Two lands are at war and the only way to end the suffering is with a political marriage. Review: Taken by Lora Leigh

takenReviewed by Jaimie

Ordinarily novellas or shorter stories are not my thing but I do read them if they are a part of a series I am already in to. Taken is a collection of novellas and short stories by Lora Leigh. All of these have been previously released so if they sound familiar that is why.

Reno’s Chance

This one is the first in Ms. Leigh’s Tempting Seals series and even though it is short, Raven and Reno are one of my favorite couples from the series. [Read more…]

Review: The Danger in Tempting an Earl by Sophie Barnes

danger in tempting an earlReviewed by Jen

I had trouble connecting to this book.  I didn’t find it engaging at all.  Neither the romance nor the larger plot worked for me.

The hero, Lucian, has been in love with Kate since childhood.  Despite the facts that he is the ostensibly attractive and charming older brother of a dear friend –and that they were inseparable in youth– she never even considered that they could one day be a match.  I had trouble right here at the very beginning. Review: Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews

magic breaksReviewed by Jen

Ilona Andrews rocks my world.  For real.  This book is absolutely a must-read for any Kate Daniels fan.  It features everything I love about the series.  It’s funny, in that wonderful, dry, sarcastic way that the Andrews team does so well.  It’s action-packed. It’s got heart –and history. The world-building is fantastic and consistent. The characters are rich and well developed. It’s got a romance I believe in.  Satisfying sex. And. It. Is. Epic.  The story is so big, the Andrews had to write a disclaimer that it’s not a series finale. [Read more…]
