Review: Kiss Cam Connection by Kaitlin Maitland

So what happened was – I wanted a quick, not necessarily short, read and Amazon recommended this one (you know how that goes). The blurb was interesting enough and there were a handful of favorable reviews so I though, what the heck it’s 110 pages (kindle version) and shouldn’t take more than an hour. I took what I got but I didn’t like any of it – none.

Micah Porter and Brody Frost are living together. They’re at a stalemate in their relationship because Brody is in love with Micah but Micah doesn’t want to say ‘I love you’ because he doesn’t believe in love (or love with Brody anyway.) While the guys are at a baseball game, Mary Magdalena ‘Nena’ O’Malley and her date sits next to them.

Her date is a jerk, his words are mean spirited (all in reference to her being over-weight) but Nena doesn’t say anything to him. After her date gets up to go for refreshments, the kiss cam pans on Micah and Nena and they kiss. Right there in front of God and country even though they’re not there together. This is where the story goes down-hill for me, I don’t even know why I continued to read.

The guys end up walking Nena to her car and for whatever reason they don’t exchange numbers. So what do they do – resort to posting an ad on Craigslist (yes, the same Craigslist where bad things begin to happen to people). One of Nena’s co-workers just happens to be a troller of Craigslist’s missed connection section (I’m assuming that’s real – I refuse to check). That’s not even the end of the premise – because it could have stopped there and worked with what was there. But to add a bit of drama, Micah and Brody think that bringing a woman into their relationship will save their relationship and they’ll be happy again. Okay…

The sex starts off right away. After the guys connect with Nena via phone, she meets them at one of Brody’s soccer games and all three proceed to go back to the guys’ house where they have sex. She is literally unable to hold herself back because the guys are so good-looking (that’s repeated ad nauseam through out) and she might never have this chance again. But she’s been complaining the whole time that guys only talk to big girls because they think they’re easy but then she goes home with these two morons without knowing their intentions. Whatever credibility she’d built up to then was shot.

Why is it so hard to find an erotic story that has plot? The three characters said things that were so contrary to their internal dialogue that I had to re-read a few paragraphs to make sure what just happened really happened. Even when Micah tells Nena they’re pursuing this thing with her so that Brody won’t leave him, she doesn’t bat an eye. I just shook my head and moved on at that point, because I was done. This read like porn to me, I counted 10 sexual acts in this story. (Remember how many pages.) I don’t know what they were supposed to convey but they all felt flat and seem to be the main focus of the story (just like porn.)

Everything happened too fast including Nena’s choices on how she introduced Micah and Brody to a couple of her brothers – I wasn’t a bit surprised when the brothers objected. You can’t just spring a boyfriend (much less two) on your overprotected older brothers and expect happy, happy, joy, joy when you’re the youngest in a brood of 10 and a girl to boot. Come on!

Happy Reading Folks!
