This is my first read from Janet Eckford and while I thought this novella fun and humorous, I found myself wanting less crass and brash from both Ella Daniels and Ian Nelson. I don’t normally read stories set in Hollywood or any having to do with movies (actors, actresses etc) because I don’t find that interesting, but the blurb on this was interesting enough that I thought I’d give it a go.
As the 4th in her Destined for Love series, I thought this read well as a stand-alone. For the past 2 years Ella and Ian have been fu… having sexual relations but as Ella’s getting closer to 40 than she is 30, she decides it’s time to turn Ian loose so she can find a nice man to marry, settle down with and have her own family. Shocked to find himself without a bed sport partner, Ian’s doesn’t know what he’s going to do, but as he’s never expressed a need other than sex he’s not sure of his choices.
The pace is quick and the dialogue is witty. Both Ian and Ella were likable, but part of me held back from find true happiness with these two. Most of my unhappiness was surrounding the constant cursing, as I’m not a fan cursing for shock value. I’m no prude so don’t think that I’m hating because of that; I love the written word too much for that. But I digress.
I wondered about Ella’s history because at 35 she should have already figured out her life’s direction, I would think. Her actions suggested she was much younger. There’s a conversation between her and her mother that had my eyebrows meeting my hairline. Then there’s Ian who other than some random thoughts of his past I didn’t know much about. Maybe it’s the inherent nature of novellas.
If you’re in the mood for a quick read that talks a lot about fu… relations, then give this one a go.
Happy Reading folks!
