Review: An Enduring Love by Wareeze Woodson

enduring loveReviewed by Shelly

One of my favorite movies is Move Over Darling which is a remake of My Favorite Wife which was based on Tennyson’s poem ‘Enoch Arden’. So when I saw the blurb for this story – it reminded me of the premise and I hoped for the best. This is a new to me author and while I can say that the length of the story wasn’t an issue for me, I’d like to mention that for the length of this story, I should have come away knowing a lot more of these people than I did. Review: Taming the Beast by Lucy King

taming the beastReviewed by Shelly

I enjoyed the 3rd story in the ‘Fairy Tales of New York’ series – a Beauty and the Beast theme – much more that I liked the previous book. Comparably, I thought the characters were much more likeable. As with the other stories this begins with a recap of the girls going to the same Catholic school and the night they drank stolen communion wine. Along the same lines as with the prior stories, this take place 10 years after that event. This time, it’s Mercedes Hernandez and Sebastian Madison’s turn. [Read more…]

Review: Darkness Seduced by Stephanie Rowe

I’m glad I stuck with this series. Not only did I enjoy this second installment more than the first, I am really excited about reading the third. As I had hoped, this book explains so much more about the larger series arc, and about who are villains are and what they hope to accomplish. The world-building remains interesting and the characters, fleshed out. The romance is about on-par with the last book. [Read more…]

Review: Dangerous Highlander by Donna Grant

dangerous highlanderReviewed by Jen

When one of my blog readers suggested I try a Donna Grant book, I looked her up on Goodreads and was pretty impressed to see how many books she has with a four star rating or above. So I picked up this first installment in her Dark Sword series.  Though it had some engaging moments, I am sad to say that this book wasn’t a big hit for me. I liked the concept, but it suffered from a classic case of insta-love, paired with characters which felt more built in a mold, than uniquely forged. [Read more…]

Review: A Forbidden Rumspringa by Keira Andrews

forbidden rumspringaReviewed by Janell

Forbidden romance is a favorite of mine. I love the longing glances, the stolen moments, the angst. So what’s more forbidden than a gay Amish romance, right? I’ve never read an Amish romance before because I’m under the impression that they’re lacking in sexytimes, and they are written for people who don’t want to read sexytimes. But the description of this book says that it is not an inspirational/ Christian romance, and that it contains explicit sexual situations. Sold! [Read more…]

Review: A Spirited Affair by Lynn Kerstan

spirited affairReviewed by Jen

I just can’t think of any reason that you might enjoy this romance. The hero is an autocratic, heavy handed prat. The heroine is inconsistent. There is no visible emotional development. There is no sexual tension. There is no sex. I kept waiting for it to get better, and for the life of me, I can’t figure out why a publisher would choose to re-release this book more than 20 years after it was initially published. I would have been better off had it stayed off my radar. [Read more…]

Review: A Night to Surrender by Tessa Dare

night to surrenderReviewed by Jen

If you are looking for an engaging historical romance, with interesting and fleshed out characters, you can count on Tessa Dare.  Not only does she give us a couple we can root for, she makes them sympathetic, sexy, and entertaining in equal measure. The premise is great. The dialogue is snappy.  And it held my attention from the first page until the last. [Read more…]

Review: Tempting the Knight by Heidi Rice

The second story in the ‘Fairy Tales of New York’ series is a Rapunzel tale that I didn’t particular care for. In comparison to book 1, I didn’t find it particularly romantic, which had a lot to do with the lightening fast speed that these two had their initial sex encounter. For this reader, there’s no fairy tale romance (not even in this ‘oblique’ version) in that – goodness gracious, it’s within the first 24 hours and they didn’t even like each other. How am I supposed to like it/them together when they clearly don’t? [Read more…]

Review: Her Stand-In Boyfriend by Kelly Jamieson

her stand in boyfriendReviewed by Shelly

I’ve enjoyed this author’s writing in the past. I read the first two in Kelly Jamieson’s ‘Rule of Three’ series and it’s only because of my enjoyment with that writing that I decided to give this one a go. But there’s something about this one that just didn’t do anything for me. If anything, the heroine aggravated me to no end. [Read more…]

Review: Darkness Awakened by Stephanie Rowe

darkness awakened 1Reviewed by Jen

Ancient warriors. A band of brothers. They must protect the earth from those of their kind who go rogue. Each has a soulmate to complete him to drive him stark raving mad. Wait. What? This series takes the standard idea of the genre –that a mate is something wonderful– and turns it completely on its ear. Here, a mate is something to be avoided at all costs. Because no mated couple has ever survived the curse of their kind. [Read more…]
