I’ve read quite a few books by Lena Hart, and I’m impressed enough to want to continue. There may be a day when I don’t want to keep reading her books, but that’s not today. I like the idea of the jilted bride/groom because well… there’s a certain amount of character strength and building to either keeping the hope alive for another day or crumbling under the pressure of being rejected. I like to see the process that reflects ether outcome.
Not everyone can do the jilted groom well; Hart can. After a night with Guy Lawson, Zamya ‘Mya’ Daniels sneaks out of his bed and his home. She leaves Guy peacefully sleeping in bed. Guy is without a clue that something is amiss and what he once thought his future would be, has significantly changed.
Now here was where I started to get a little anxious, until I realized that Mya is a whopping 21 year old girl who just lost her over protective father in the past week. Guy, at 30 years old, should have known better, but he didn’t. That surprised me a bit because he’s smart enough to be Sheriff but not smart enough to see that this girl is clearly too young for any real responsibility, including that of a wife.
There’s no suspense or action in this; it’s more of a getting to know each other story. But I found myself disappointed in many areas, including the part of them getting to know each other. There’s a lot of telling what happened but not too much of the showing what happened.
I found Mya to be really immature the entire way through. I didn’t get a sense of her truly understanding the scope of how she really made Guy feel when she left him. The apology and subsequent actions behind that were way too quick for me to shed a single tear. And Guy was way too easy on her. He’s the man and all but Mya has all the responsibility of her actions and I didn’t like the way his mother automatically blamed him for all of Mya’s woes.
Maybe it would have been a better read if it was longer but for what there was it was – good and the HEA made up for a lot.
Happy reading folks!
