Review: Geek Bearing Gifts by Milly Taiden

This is my new guilty pleasure. The plot lines are ridiculous, the inner dialogue is repetitive, and the sex is absolutely awesomely outlandish.

Nita Islas is the cousin of the heroine, Tallia, in book 1. She’s actually a nice character. Sweet and a little dumber than I thought she would be, or maybe the plot was so contrived as to be laughable. Let me explain.

Nita goes to the same dating agency that her cousin went to and she gets an ‘away’ date with the man that Gerri’s picked out for her. She packs her bags and drives to the isolated cabin for her date with bear shifter Ky Stone. When Nita was much younger, she had a best friend by the name of Ky. He was a tall, gangly, shy, glasses wearing, stuttering teen age mess of a kid, but she liked him because he made her feel good about herself. (Nita was the chubby girl in the crowd.)

Fast forward 17 years. Nita has very fond memories of Ky but she doesn’t put 2 + 2 together. She doesn’t even suspect. First of all, Ky’s not a common name. Second, how about just asking – ‘hey, I used to know this guy with your name, you wouldn’t by any chance have grown up in such in such would you’? It’s just a bit to convenient that she didn’t – probably the abundant ‘I wanna rip your clothes off thoughts’ kept her back.

Then there’s Ky who’s known Nita was his mate since they were teenagers. I wonder how long he was going to not look before he did whatever alphas do without mates.

Surprisingly, they actually don’t have intercourse the first night, but the inner dialogue about wanting to is the same thing said about 12 different ways. But I digress.

There’s a sad bit of intrigue with some shifters from another clan wanting a piece of Ky’s land, but it moved things along so I can’t complain too much. This could be a stand alone, but I really think for maximum enjoyment, you’ve got to read them in order. Off to book 3 I go.

Happy reading folks!
