Review: Deadly Silence by Rebecca Zanetti

I was so bummed out when I started the last book in the Sin Brothers series, because it was one of my favorites. The way the book ended I was fairly certain that there would be more of the series, but I couldn’t find any information on Rebecca Zanetti’s website, so I wasn’t sure. At RT 2016 I had the chance to speak to Ms. Zanetti who told me that the series would be spun off to a new one and I could not wait to get it. Deadly Silence is the first book in the Blood Brothers series and while the focus is on a new set of brothers, we got to see the guys that we fell for in the earlier series.

Ryker Jones grew up in a broken foster care system, but in that home, he became bonded with Denver and Heath. Ryker took Heath under his wing when the smaller boy was struggling, and the boys then took on Denver. They were beaten and tormented by a twisted Sheriff and his sadistic brother. The only oddity was the doctor who came on behalf of the state to study the three boys. Years later the boys have opened The Lost Bastards Investigative Agency to help find missing people. Their latest case is a serial killer that is one step ahead of them.

Zara Remington is a Paralegal with a stable, comfortable life. After a lifetime of watching her mother flit from man to man, she craves stability. Despite this desire for a peaceful, calm life, Zara is living on the edge. Seeing bad boy Ryker, who made it clear he only wanted sex and nothing more, is out of her normal realm. In addition to that, she’s helping her childhood friend Julie who is currently divorcing the very wealthy Mayor of the town – and who is also a client at Zara’s law firm. This move could make her lose her licence.

Ryker’s brothers have set up offices for their agency in the city that Zara lives in. Ryker tells himself this is just temporary, but it is clear that his relationship with Zara is evolving. Things are happening in her life that are making him very uncomfortable, and he can just tell that something is going on behind the scenes. Determined to protect her, he does everything he can to keep her safe.

In the meantime, the brothers’ investigation agency has been hacked by a young kid named Greg who tries to force them to help him locate Dr. Madsen, one of the villains from the Sin Brothers series. Only, Ryker knows her as Sylvia Daniels – the doctor that used to study him as a child. Determined to help the young kid who is obviously desperate, and now also curious about the connection, Ryker agrees to take the kid’s case on.

The book was very fast paced and it had everything that made me fall in love with the Sin Brothers series. The characters were well developed, the future stories were set up well, the hero and heroine were kickass but also damaged in their own way – it had it all.  I loved the way Zara took Greg under her wing as a wounded bird.

Overall I loved this installment just as much as I loved each of the Sin Brothers books. Ryker and Zara were a great couple with sizzling chemistry and a sweet love story. The other brothers are obviously both dealing with their demons and their stories are going to be just as great. I cannot wait for the next one!
