Review: Lethal Lies by Rebecca Zanetti

Reviewed by Jaimie

Lethal Lies is the second book in the Blood Brothers series by Rebecca Zanetti and this one was just as good as the first! This series is a spin-off of The Sin Brothers series and so far I have loved every one! The action kicks off right out of the gate with this one and it doesn’t stop throughout. Anya and Heath were a great hero and heroine and the story kept my attention from start until finish. The set-up for Denver’s book has me dying to get my hands on that one as well!!

Anya Best is on sabbatical from her job as a professor and is currently the target of the Copper Killer, a serial killer who targets only redheads. Anya’s sister Loretta (who we met in Deadly Silence) is an FBI Agent who is determined to protect her sister. Loretta sets herself up as bait for the Copper Killer and is ultimately murdered. Determined to avenge her sister’s death, Anya goes on television at her sister’s funeral and deliberately taunts and antagonizes the serial killer. She also announces that she is currently engaged to Heath, inviting more trouble to their door.

Heath Jones grew up in the same foster home as Ryker (from Deadly Silence) and Denver. All three boys were part of Dr. Daniels’ creations, and all three have enhanced abilities. Determined to survive, the three form a blood bond to tie themselves together and they have been there for each other ever since. As it turns out, Heath is actually related to characters from The Sin Brothers series, and Shane makes a brief appearance in this installment. He tells himself that he’s looking out for Anya because he respected her sister, but he cannot stop thinking about the fiery redhead. Now that she’s taunted a serial killer to come for her, he can’t just walk away and leave her to die. Unfortunately, her impromptu press conference alerts Sheriff Cobb and Dr. Daniels to his location, bringing even more trouble to them.

There are so many moving pieces to this story and the revelation about who the Copper Killer is actually caught me by surprise. Both Anya and Heath are emotionally wounded and both desperately want someone to love and to love them. Surprisingly it doesn’t take a huge disaster to get Heath to realize he wants to be with Anya forever. Even before the crazy ending, he has realized that he loves her and doesn’t want to lose her.

Now throughout Ryker and now Heath’s books, we have seen how hard Denver is taking having to leave Noni the woman he loves. He did one of those stupid “I love her so I have to leave her” scenarios it seems, and he’s been drinking and becoming reckless out of his misery. After refusing to even talk about her, at the very end of Lethal Lies he gets information that changes everything and he sets off for Noni. I cannot wait to see how his story goes!!

Overall this was a fast-paced, sexy read and I loved both Anya and Heath. While Heath had his moments, he allowed Anya to help avenge her sister’s death and didn’t try to hide her in a bubble, despite that being his first inclination. It was nice to see one of these alpha males embracing the strength of their woman instead of trying to protect them. Loved it and can’t wait for Denver’s story.
