Review: Wildfire by Ilona Andrews

This book gave me absolutely everything I wanted! This was the third (and presumably) final book in the Hidden Legacy series and it delivered in every way. It was action packed. It was smart. It had a great romance. And it left just enough open that I can hold out hope for more books in the series.

Nevada and the rest of her family are poised to become a legal House in order to thwart her grandmother’s plan to force them all to bend to her will. We all know Nevada is a powerful truthseeker, but here, her talents grow even more. It’s been such a thrill watching her come into her gift. And it’s been almost as much fun to unravel the mysteries of her family’s powers. We saw Catalina in action in White Hot. Now it’s Arabella’s turn –and she is awesome. So is Leon, the cousin we thought to be without power. They’re all fascinating and unique, and still they are only a fraction of the phenomenal supporting cast.

I guess part of what makes all the characters so great is the superb world-building. Not only is each character fleshed out as a person, but also as magic-users with individual gifts. It’s not only creative, but it all ties in with the core of the plot. I loved it.

The storyline itself had a dual focus on the Baylor clan and their efforts to escape the evil grandmother –and a new case for Nevada. Rogan’s ex-fiancé needs help to find her missing husband, and it all ties in with that big conspiracy that has been unspooling for the duration of the series. There are self-aware bears, giant blue tigers with tentacles, and fungi-magicians and that’s barely the tip of the iceberg.

My favorite part of the story, of course, centered on the romance cementing between Rogan and Nevada. I love these two together. They don’t play games with each other; they’re honest about their feelings and their flaws. Not only do they do they make me swoon, they also scorch the pages with their steamy love scenes.

The ending is totally satisfying, but as I said, there’s just enough unresolved to let me believe there could be more to come… not just with the conspiracy but with the Baylor sister and so many other great characters.

If you haven’t tried this series, I promise you, you can’t go wrong with Ilona Andrews. Start with Burn for Me and get comfortable. You won’t want to stop reading until you are finished with all three.

  1. I am glad to hear that the romance was your favorite part of the story….something to look forward to here. Great review.

  2. Great review. I agree 100%. I love the romance, but the side characters and emotional depth of this book makes it one of my favorites!

  3. Jacqueline Nicholson says:

I love this series and yes please wrap up the great conspiracy. I want a book on the weather mages and other houses. The young weather mage girl towards the end is so interesting. I will not try to spell her name without the book in front of me.
