Review: Man Hands by Sarina Bowen and Tanya Eby

As a long-term Sarina Bowen fan, I look forward to the author collaborations she does, and this story, co-written with Tanya Eby, featuring a sex tape, a TV Mr Fixit and a larger lady, is another winner. It’s heavy on the comedy to make you giggle-snort, alongside a sexy angst free romance that I’ve come to expect from this author. I needed the light relief this week, and it delivered.

Brynn is an unhappy divorcee. She’s glad to have left her passionless ex behind, but she lost her job in the process and feels like a failure. What better to do than go to a fancy party with your friends, and run and jump (literally) on the first handsome guy you see?

Tom is on a lady-hiatus after an unpleasant ending to his last relationship. He’s a big, tall, TV celebrity, with nine seasons of a house renovation show under his (tool) belt, and he’s very good with his sizeable hands. Helpful for when a woman flies through the air at him, and super useful for helping her take off her wrap dress when a kiss leads to explosive passion and a quickie in the boat house.

Phew! Brynn is a much happier bunny when they’re through, and they shake hands and introduce themselves then go their separate ways.

Unbeknownst to them, their escapade was captured on tape, and then sold online. Mr Fixit’s thrusting buttocks and his lady friend’s sizeable bosom soon hits the news, causing no end of mayhem to his family-friendly appeal and her attempts to get a new teaching job.

There’s only one thing for it. A fake engagement to nullify the scandal.

Ah I loved this set up. Of course the more Tom and Brynn got to know one another as they fly to New York and seek the press attention they’d been hiding from, the more they liked each other, and they didn’t make much of an attempt to keep their hands to themselves, even if it ‘confuses things’.

Alongside being a teacher, Brynn also ran a cooking blog, Brynn’s Dips and Balls, so there were lovely foods in this too, and that level of delicious detail hooks me in stories. It also makes me eat more, but that’s by the bye. Tom had a huge house and fancy kitchen, but no one to eat with, and he needed a big dollop of grounding. Brynn was ace from the start, but Tom needed a little work.

They were great together, and fit well. Brynn was not exactly a waif, and Tom was huge and so manly. She had confidence issues, he has lots of compliments. So did his dick, which had its own occasional dialogue.

Then I nod, and then my face is in her cleavage and my tongue and my hands are doing things, and my dick is so happy he’s humming. Or vibrating. Whatever. Sir Fixit Dick is excited.

Or this, which made me laugh like a drain:

Tom’s Dick

Yes! What he said! Come to papa! Last one in is a…

Ahhhhhh. Right…there.

Finally.

If you don’t like silly humor, this might irritate you. Equally if you’re looking for something with angst and endless depth, this ain’t your tale. But if you want to relax with a well-written laugh, and chuckle through to a guaranteed happy ending, you’ll love this.

I’m going to check out more by Tanya Eby, and the sequel to this, Man Card, due out in January, is at the top of my to-read list.
