Review: Dirty Scoundrel by Jessica Clare

As a fan of Jessica Clare I find that I enjoy the “predictable” nature of her books. I like her writing style and the way she draws out her stories, and this one was no exception. Dirty Scoundrel is the second book in the Roughneck Billionaires series and I must admit I read out of order. I picked this one up first and then went back and read the first book because I liked it so much.

Clay Price is a disgustingly rich man who tries to come off as cold-hearted. He may have found success in the business world, but his personal life is not the greatest. After proposing to the love of his life years earlier, and being turned down, Clay threw himself into his business. Now he has the woman who broke his heart years ago right where he wants her.

Natalie Weston loved Clay with a school-girl intensity. After losing him seven years ago, her love life has not been a priority for her. On the verge of bankruptcy Natalie is desperate for help. She gets her hopes up that Clay may be that help she desperately needs but she quickly realizes he’s not the same boy she loved back then. He is more than willing to help her, but in exchange he wants her.

Of course it is a dick move, using her financial situation as a weapon, but Clay seems to genuinely love Natalie. Some heroes are motivated by revenge or hatred in the beginning, but he just wants her and he will do whatever he needs to for that to happen.

It was impossible to not root for these two. Natalie could be a little too placid at times but she’s a good match for Clay. She brings out the softer side of him and the chemistry between them was hot. It was a fast and enjoyable read and I’m really looking forward to reading more books in this series!
