Review: Love Me Again by Jaci Burton

Reviewed by Jaimie

Love Me Again is the seventh book in the Hope series by Jaci Burton. I was introduced to Ms. Burton’s work with her Wild Riders series and even though this one is quite different, I love everything she writes. The Hope series typically has sweet, loveable stories and this one is no exception.

Loretta Simmons returns to Hope, Oklahoma, after her marriage went down in flames. She allowed her parents to influence her as a teenager so she dumped the man she really loved to marry the now ex-husband. She works hard to make life as stable as possible for her daughter, running a bookstore in town, starting a book club and doing her best to be an independent woman. The only thing that could throw her new life out of balance is the man renovating the building next door. After avoiding him when she returned to town, she can’t avoid it any longer.

Deacon Fox has popped in and out in earlier books in the series. Loretta crushed his heart when she ditched him for the slimy would-be politician, and he has no interest in getting reacquainted. That plan goes well until he has to begin renovating the building next to her bookstore. Now it’s hard to avoid her and her adorable daughter makes it even more difficult.

One thing I love about this series is that the characters pop in and out and you never lose touch of people in earlier books. It’s such a close community that it would be weird if we never heard anything about them, but I still really enjoy those parts.

I really liked both the hero and the heroine. Loretta made a mistake when she skipped town with her ex, but she was young and stupid so it’s not hard to forgive her for that. She’s doing her best now to be a strong, independent woman and she wasn’t whiny, waiting for the man to save her. Deacon obviously had every reason to be angry with Loretta, but he wasn’t a complete ass. He was adorable with her daughter and dog and he had me rooting for them from the get-go.

There wasn’t much suspense or anything but the story didn’t need it. The characters are well-developed and when you add the people from earlier books (and people who will be featured later on), they all combine for another fantastic book by Ms. Burton. I can’t wait for the next one!
