Review: Twist by Dannika Dark

OK. I am hooked. After this second installment in the Mageri series, I understand what all the fuss is about with this author. I read the whole thing in one sitting.

Confession number two: I was totally skeptical when I read the blurb and saw that there was yet another man coming into the heroine’s life. If you read my review on the first book, you would know there were already three guys who had the potential to be her love interest. And now, I am rooting for none of them. Because I have a new character named Logan Cross to ship.

As the story begins, Silver (Who I still think of as Zoe) is still training to understand what it means to be a mage. Justus is a good teacher, but he is very old-school and he keeps her pretty cloistered. She misses her best friend, though, and reaches out to Sunny behind his back. (Yay for the return of this character and cameo appearance by the cat. Their introduction, and later absence, in the first book kind of irritated me.)

Meanwhile, the bad guy who survived book one, is gunning for Silver. He wants his toy back. So he hires a man to kidnap her. That is Logan. He is a Chitah, a new supernatural breed we haven’t been introduced to yet. There is something cat like going on, but he is super powerful and his bite is poison. But he is immediately drawn to Silver and a strange relationship between them is born.

I don’t want to spoil too much, but I loved these two together. It is an unusual pairing and a slow burn and I don’t care. Because at the end of the day it is so clear that he loves her. None of the other guys in her life have ever been so upfront about their intentions and it’s nice to see her get that for a change.

I also really love the secondary romance brewing between Sunny and Knox, Adam’s best friend. Yeah, it came out of nowhere, but it also came on like a freight train and I was 100% on board.

Silver doesn’t always make the best choices in her efforts to ferret out her nemesis, but I understand what drives her. And I respect the fierceness in which she values the people she cares about.

I can’t wait to spend time with more of the Chitah and to see how Silver’s love life plays out. And I can’t wait for the bad guy to get what’s coming to him. Will definitely keep reading.
