Review: The Kiss Thief by L.J. Shen

Reviewed by Ericka

I have read LJ Shen’s previous series called the Sinners of Saints series but this one is my favorite out of all the others she has written. For one it has the mafia and I love anything dealing with the mafia.

Francesca is the daughter of a powerful mafia leader. She has been groomed her whole life that after graduating high school her main concern and focus is to get married and produce heirs to the family business. On the night of the masquerade (which everyone is dressed as gods and goddesses) she feels like fate is going to bring her and her childhood love together but things take a turn for the worst and her fate as she would have it is stolen from her.

I loved the character Francesca so much! She was always sheltered and hidden from the world as her parents would put it. She only wanted to do right by her father even if that meant she would have to sacrifice her happiness. Once she realized the exact measures of her father’s ruthlessness she becomes this strong independent woman. Only at nineteen she is thrust into family drama and she has to realize what is best for her. She literally goes through so much and it breaks my heart that she had no control over the situations that she was put in.

Wolfe Keaton is a senator and is a powerful man that has so much hold on Francesca’s parents and her father’s empire. He is cruel, ruthless, and does not show any mercy. He is the Alpha Male and it shows in every aspect. However, he has a cruel past that groomed him for the way he has become. His story also breaks my heart. I wanted so much good things for him. When it does come down to the few people he cares about he loves hard and will not…I repeat…will not see any harm or ill will towards them. Retribution isn’t even the word to describe what he can do. He is fierce and very protective.

The chemistry between Francesca and Wolfe is so evident between them even when they were bantering back and forth. They both tried so hard to push each other away but didn’t realize that they were more alike than anything. It seemed others could see how good they were for each other but them.

The whole set up of the Mafia was done brilliantly. The ruthlessness of the family feuding and how the author stuck to the originality of the mafia. There is a scene that takes place that reminded me of a scene from The Godfather Movie.

As usual with this author, the writing is so easy to follow. The characters are put into situations and it depends on the writing style of how the story will flow.

There are some trigger warnings that deal with rape and physical abuse.

Overall, I loved this story.

  1. Hmm it seems like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and
say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I
too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything.

Do you have any tips and hints for inexperienced blog writers?
    I’d really appreciate it.
