5 for Friday – August 17

This week has kicked my ass. I still have not recovered from my rocking weekend in New Orleans.  I got home Sunday night –which was also my daughter’s birthday– and after groceries, homework, laundry, etc, I made it to bed around 1:30. I was back up at 6:30, getting the kids ready for school and jumping back into the work week. A smart person would have taken Monday off.  Clearly, I am not a smart person.  I am, however, slowly getting back into my regular schedule of books, Twitter, and dirty-man Tumblr. The Gods are smiling on me.

5.  While I was away, the lovely Patty Briggs revealed the cover for her next Mercy Thompson book, Frost Burned.

Shapeshifter Mercy Thompson’s life is calming down, at least enough that she can focus on mundane matters like Black Friday sales. But on her return, Mercy is unable to contact her mate, Alpha Adam Hauptman, or the other members of their pack. All she knows is that Adam is angry and in pain.

With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam’s disappearance may be related – and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from the most unlikely of allies: the vampire seethe.

I am really excited to read this one. I can’t wait to see the repercussions from the end of the last Alpha & Omega book. It’s going to be awesome.  Frost Burned comes out March 5th.

4. Amanda Carlson was one of the lovely authors I met at AAD last week. Her debut, Full Blooded is out in September. (More on that in a bit.) She’s already got cover art for book two, Hot Blooded.

Her mate has been kidnapped by a Goddess hell-bent on revenge — but Jessica is playing for keeps.Because she’s the only female werewolf in town…it comes with its own set of rules…and powers.
Aided by two vamps, two loyal Pack members, and one very reluctant human, Jessica must rescue her man while coming to terms with what being a wolf really means. All in a day’s work for a girl.
The second novel in the Jessica McClain series is a full on action adventure featuring one angry Goddess and plenty of monsters, demons, and a few newly risen beasties…

Ewa de Cruz is so gorgeous. I want to look like her in my next life.  Hot Blooded releases in April 2013. To win your very own copy of Full Blooded, fill out the Rafflecopter form below.

3. Everyone tells me that Downtown Abbey is must-see-tv.  Unfortunately, I missed all the buzz until season two was almost over.  But the trailer is out for season three and now I am wondering if I should jump on the bandwagon.  Do I need to rent seasons one and two? Give me some deets on the appeal.

(The site hosting the season three trailer took it down. This video has clips from season two.)

2. It’s about time.  The Price is Right is inviting a male model to Come on Down. The show is doing a casting call to become the show’s first male showcase model. A web series will document the casting process.  I don’t know about you, but I think this is long overdue.  Who doesn’t want to see a hot dude openly caressing a washing-machine or some luggage?

1. And this one little piece of random.  It may not be politically correct, but I will go to my grave loving this song.  Check out Baby Got Back, Sung by the Movies.

Hope your weekend rocks.

P.S. I have no idea how to work this link into today’s post, but when I read the article, I laughed so hard that I cried and my stomach hurt.  I have to share it. (Warning – Potty Humor)

5 for Friday – August 10

K^td jy5%$Dikks. Or for those of you who do not speak the international language of “drunk,” I wish you a Happy Friday from the balmy and decadent Crescent City.  I am in the middle of the long-awaited Author After Dark conference, and frankly, I have no idea what is happening in book news this week. But I can talk to you about booze.  So today, I share with you my Top 5 Can’t Miss Drinks When You Visit New Orleans.

5. Sazerac.

It got its name from the Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans. The recipe varies a little but here’s a common version:

  • 3 oz rye whiskey
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup (or sugar cube)
  • Peychaud bitters to taste
  • absinthe or absinthe substitute
  • lemon twist for garnish
4. The Vieux Carre
Another whiskey drink, though a little different:
  • .75 oz Rye whiskey
  • .75 oz Cognac
  • .75 oz Noilly Prat Rouge Vermouth
  • 1 tsp Bénédictine
  • 2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
3. Ramos Fizz
It’s also called the New Orleans Fizz. The more it is shaken, the better:
  • 1 1/2 oz gin
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 1 1/4 oz simple syrup
  • 2 oz milk, half & half or cream
  • 1 small egg white
  • 2 dashes fleurs d’orange (orange flower water)
  • club soda
2. Mint Julep
A Southern classic.
  • leaves from 4-5 mint sprigs
  • 2 sugar cubes or 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 2 1/2 oz bourbon
  • mint sprig for garnish

1. Hand Grenade

You must have one of these while you are here.  A few will knock you on your ass.  You can find them all over Bourbon Street, but the best place to buy is Tropical Isle:
  • 1 Part Gin
  • 1 Part Grain Alcohol
  • 1 Part Melon liqueur
  • 1 Part Rum
  • 1 Part Vodka
Did I run out of numbers before I got to a Hurricane??  Let’s pretend like I didn’t.

Of all the things you cannot skip on a trip to New Orleans, a Pat O’Briens Hurricane is on the list up there with Cafe Du Monde beignets and Red Beans & Rice.

  • 2 oz light rum
  • 2 oz dark rum
  • 2 oz passion fruit juice
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • juice of a half a lime
  • 1 Tbsp simple syrup
  • 1 Tbsp grenadine
  • orange slice and cherry for garnish

They are tasty, but powerful!!

Hope your weekend is fantastic. And if you can’t visit NOLA, try one of these drinks at home and you can pretend like you’re here!

5 for Friday – August 3

It’s finally Friday and the closer I get to the Authors After Dark convention, the slower time seems to be moving.  I’m headed in Tuesday to begin my week of debauchery celebrating the love of booze books with fellow bloggers, readers, and authors.  I will endeavor to tweet often and take lots of pictures.  I’ve got a list ready of great drinks and restaurants for people to try if they’re new to the city.  If you want any suggestions, just let me know!

5. Kristen Calliahan has revealed the cover for Winterblaze, book three in the Darkest London series.

There is no blurb yet, but she did say in her USA Today/ HEA article that “Poppy may be happily married to London Police Inspector Winston Lane, but a demon is about to put their love to the test.”  (*swoon*) Winterblaze is set to release February 26th.

4. I’ve got another Moira Rogers freebie to report. If you haven’t tried their Southern Arcana series, you can start at the beginning! Crux is free at Amazon (and Barnes and Noble) for a limited time.

Jackson Holt makes a decent living as a private investigator in New Orleans, home of one of the largest underground supernatural populations in the United States. He and his partners have never met a case they couldn’t crack…until a local bar owner asks him to do a little digging on her newest hire.New Orleans is the fourth destination in as many months for Mackenzie Brooks, a woman on the run from a deranged stalker. After all, any man who shows up on her doorstep claiming to be her destined lover has more than a few screws loose. But crazy doesn’t explain why he always finds her no matter how far she runs. When her well-meaning boss puts a PI on her case, Mackenzie comes face to face with the incredible truth: magic is real, and whatever spell has kept her hidden and separate from the paranormal world is rapidly deteriorating.

With time running out, she has no choice but to trust Jackson as he struggles to uncover the truth of her past-and her destiny.

If you like it, there are four other installments out in the series so far. Book 5, Impulse, releases September 4th.

3. Harlequin is giving some Megan Hart books a makeover.  A slew of her erotic/powerful/wrenching stories are getting new covers. Check it out:

Any Megan Hart fans out there? Do you like the new covers better or the old ones?
2. Looking to get lucky? Maybe you need to pay a visit to Olympic Village.
Copyright (c) 123RF Stock Photos

According to ESPN, there’s a shit-ton of hanky panky going on among the competitors. Think I’m exaggerating? The article linked above goes on to say that Olympic organizers have ordered 100,000 condoms to keep up with the, er, rigorous demand.  The best quote comes from a former Olympian who talks about how athletes have a chance to win gold medals and sleep with hot guys. Win-win.  I guess I should have taken gymnastics.

1. And finally… you may not know this about me, but I am a closet horror movie fan.  I don’t get to watch as many as I used to with two little ones in the house, but the impulse is still there. I had a little squee moment when I stumbled over this trailer for the new Silent Hill movie.

Bad ass!! (Is it just me or does the girl look like a dead ringer for Michelle Williams?)  I’d like to just spend a day in a dark house with a bottle of wine and watch all of these movies back-to-back.  The zombie nurses are my favorites.

Don’t judge!

5 for Friday – July 27

An article from author & blogger Roni Loren is prompting big changes in the blogosphere.  Roni was sued over a copyrighted image she posted on her blog and her story has become a cautionary tale.  You’ve probably noticed the absence of Man Candy photos on many of your favorite sites… and this one is not immune.  The Man Candy slideshow is gone, along with my Free Pass List (which, by the way, was my most popular blog post of all time.) There will be no more Tumblr Photos of the Week, though you can still enjoy hot men on the Tumblr site any time you need your fix.  I will work to find creative solutions, nowhere more so than here at 5 for Friday. Let’s see what we can do.

5. With all the excitement surrounding Lover At Last, I feel like I’ve been neglecting JR Ward’s next Fallen Angel release, Rapture.  I’m really excited about this one, especially to see the aftermath of the Bad Thing that happened with Eddie in the last book. She has put up a little video teaser on her Facebook page, which I have tried valiantly –an unsuccessfully– to embed for the past hour.  If you want to see, click the screen grab and it will link you out.

Rapture releases September 25.

P.S. Ward has now posted the first line of Lover At Last: “Now THAT is a motherf**kin’ whip!” Be still my heart.

4. I know I have been bombarding you with squee about the upcoming Styxx book for weeks now –and I swear this is the last time I am going to talk about it (until I talk about it again.) The book blurb is out!!

Just when you thought doomsday was over…
Centuries ago Acheron protected the human race by imprisoning an ancient evil bent on absolute destruction. Now that evil has been unleashed and it is out for revenge.
As the twin to Acheron, Styxx hasn’t always been on his brother’s side. They’ve spent more centuries going at each other’s throats than protecting their backs. Now Styxx has a chance to prove his loyalty to his brother, but only if he’s willing to trade his life for Acheron’s.
Bethany was born to set right the wrong that left her family imprisoned for eternity. Now that she’s out, nothing will stop her from fulfilling the bargain that freed them. She must take the life of the last remaining Atlantean and she will not fail. But things are never what they seem and Acheron is no longer the last of his line.
Styxx and Acheron must put aside their past and learn to trust each other or more will suffer.
Yet it’s hard to risk your own life for someone who once tried to take yours, even when it’s your own twin, and when loyalties are skewed and no one can be trusted, not even yourself, how do you find a way back from the darkness that wants to consume the entire world? One that wants to start by devouring your very soul?

I love, love, love that Kenyon is writing this book. Even if I have to wait until next year.  In the meantime, for League fans, SK has posted an excerpt to Cloak & Silence on her website.  That’s out in December.

3. I’m sad to say that I am late to the Moira Rogers party.  I just read my first book from them a few weeks ago, and now I must make up for lost time. I am almost finished with the Bloodhounds series and I have Impulse and Wild Card loaded on the Nook, ready to read.  If you, too, want to get your Moira Rogers fix, it’s a great time.  Wild Card is free on Amazon! Anyone want to do a read-along?

Free + hot sex = Happiness  (Words to live by, my friends.)

2. NBC has ordered 10 episodes of a new Dracula drama, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Generally, this would be the time I would trot out one of those pictures I am not supposed to post.  Instead, let’s watch Jonny-boy on YouTube together.

Now let’s pretend he has fangs. It’s being produced by Carnival Films & Television… the folks behind Downtown Abbey.  I am intrigued.  Which means it will no doubt be canceled in about five minutes.

1. For a minute, it looked like Matt Bomer was the man for the 50 Shades movie. At least, this Entertainment Weekly cover seemed to be the real deal.  (I am crying over the fact that I can’t post it right here.) However, the photo has been debunked as a hoax.

I have to admit… they had me convinced. I am so easy.  I think I would watch it if Bomber were cast.

5 for Friday – July 20

Happy Friday!  Today’s the day I go down in history as either the Best Mother in the World or the Worst.  For an early 7th birthday present, I bought my son tickets to go see WWE Raw.  I only bought two, so he can go with the hubs but they allegedly have some autograph signings or something for the kids first, so I am tagging along for that.  Some of these dudes are built like shit-brick-houses, so I’ll let you know if I see anything worth reporting.

5. I am getting more and more excited about this upcoming Styxx book from Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Photo Source: Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Facebook Page

2013 is so far away!!

4. Which brings me to that other book I am waiting for with baited breath… Lover At Last.  JR Ward posted the following on her Facebook page:

What does this MEAN?? Is he losing his heart? His sock? His cherry as a bottom?? (I could be down with that, by the way.)  Ward is trying to keeel me!

3. Speaking of hot m/m action, Jennifer at The Book Nympho tipped me off to this fabulous article on straight girls and gay porn.

I know it doesn’t wet everyone’s whistle, but it’s nice to see I’m in such good company!

2. We’ve all got our guilty pleasure reads, and mine are Christine Feehan’s Carpathian books.  I can do no other than to keep reading them. (Only other Feehan readers will get that joke.)  Christine has posted the first chapter of Dark Storm on her website.  Here are the deets:

Return to the seductive world of Christine Feehan’s New York Times bestselling Carpathian novels as roiling passions collide in a perfect storm of dangerous desire that only a precious few can hope to outrun . . .Awakening after all this time in a world of absolute darkness and oppressive heat, Dax wonders in how many ways the world above must have changed. But it is how he has changed that fills him with dread and loathing. Buried alive for hundreds of years in a volcano in the Carpathian Mountains, Dax fears that he has become the full-fledged abomination that every Carpathian male fears, a victim of the insidious evil that has crept relentlessly into his mind and body over the centuries. But there are some things that never change.

His name is Mitro, the vampire Dax had hunted all these long centuries. Second in command to the prince of the Carpathian people he is the epitome of everything malevolent, and perpetrator of one of the most shocking killing sprees known to man – and beast. Even his friends and family weren’t safe from Mitro’s bloodlust. Neither was Mitro’s lifemate, Arabejila, an extraordinary woman with extraordinary gifts. But now that Dax has re-emerged, so too has Mitro. The ultimate battle between good and evil has been re-engaged. Between Dax and Mitro, a violent game has begun – one that has marked Riley Parker, the last descendent of Arabejila, as the reward.

Who the hell are these people?  I want Skylar and Dmitri. (*whine font*) Feehan jumped ahead 50 years between the first two books. She can jump another 5 years for this one!!  Patience is not my greatest strength.

1. And finally, Penguin is giving away a copy of Fury’s Kiss before you can buy it!

Dorina Basarab is a dhampir—half-human, half-vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. But so far, Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing…
Dory is used to fighting hard and nasty. So when she wakes up in a strange scientific lab with astrange man standing over her, her first instinct is to take his head off. Luckily, the man is actually the master vampire Louis-Cesare, so he’s not an easy kill.
It turns out that Dory had been working with a Vampire Senate task force on the smuggling of magical items and weaponry out of Faerie when she was captured and brought to the lab. But when Louis-Cesare rescues her, she has no memory of what happened to her.
To find out what was done to her—and who is behind it—Dory will have to face off with fallen angels, the maddest of mad scientists, and a new breed of vampires that are far worse than undead…

Fury’s Kiss is out October 2nd. The contest runs through August 3rd.

5 for Friday – July 13

The Authors After Dark convention is getting so close, I can practically taste it! (For those of you who are curious, it tastes suspiciously like a Pat O’Brien’s Hurricane.) But I am trying not to obsess.  This week has gone by pretty fast, thanks in part to an unplanned visit to New Orleans to visit my mom and take in a family crab-boil.  While I was there, she pulled up the blog on her computer, read a couple of posts and said, “You can be a little funny.” (*pause*) “Who knew?” Thanks, Mom.

5. Kresley Cole has announced the next book in her Immortals After Dark series! Macrieve will be Uilleam’s story.  (That’s one of the Lykae twins who we last saw escaping the prison-island in Dreams of a Dark Warrior.)

I’m always down with the Lykae and I will read anything from Kresley Cole.  But I was kind of hoping for a Lanthe and Thronos book to be next.  Some people have said they thought it would be Kristoff and Furie, but I’m expecting them toward the end… maybe right before a big finale featuring Nix.  I won’t bitch too much, though. I was dreadfully unexcited by the idea of a Carrow book with a hero I had never heard of, and Demon from the Dark ended up being my favorite book in the series so far. Macrieve will be out May 14th.

This seems like a good time to trot out my picture with Paul Marron, no?

I can wait to see what dude will end up on the Macrieve cover. Maybe I’ll get to snuggle with him too.

4. I really enjoyed The Hunger Games –the book and the movie. Mockingjay is a whole ‘nother story.  I will spare you the rant about how much I hated the ending of the series and jump to the part where Lionsgate has announced they are splitting the movie into two parts.

Yack.  It’s not worth two movies.  It’s the same length as the other two books and it was the most unappealing of the three.  Boo.

3. Onto more pleasant news, there is a new trailer out for the next season of Sons of Anarchy.

Jen is in her happy place.

2. Speaking of my happy place, Channing Tatum says there is gonna be a sequel to Magic Mike.  As I said on Twitter, I hope the filmmakers learn from their mistakes in the first movie: less “plot,” more stripping.  Someone told me this may be a prequel.  I’m ok with that.  I’d love an excuse for Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer to get some more screen time.

But if we go with a new crop, let me recommend my casting: Jared Padalecki, Jason Momoa, Charlie Hunnam, and Zac Efron as the new “kid.”  Oh yeah, and Channing Tatum. You can’t have a Magic Mike movie without Mike.

Now I have myself all aflutter. Any thoughts on your fantasy casting?

1. And in one more piece of movie news, Michael Fassbender has announced plans to co-produce and star in the adaptation of Assassin’s Creed.

For those unfamiliar with the game, it follows Desmond Miles, as “an unwilling participant in an experiment wherein he’s forced to live out the memories of his assassin ancestors.”* I wonder if he’ll be naked.

Have a great weekend.

*I totally stole that Assassin’s Creed description from MTV.com.

5 for Friday – July 6

Happy Friday! I’m finally over my Magic Mike hangover and I have learned two very important lessons.  One: it’s bad enough to drunk-dial or drunk-tweet, but it’s even less of a good idea to pull out the camcorder and post your drunken monologue-slash-movie-review online… even if your enabler-friends say it is funny.  And two: if you are foolish enough to do this anyway, for the love of God, disable the comments on YouTube.  Days after my review posted, someone left the comment, “Lonely drunk older woman. Yuck.”  I wanted to shout, “I’m not lonely!!” But I thought better of a flame war with some kid out in cyberspace. (I’m still crying on the inside and the comments are, indeed, now disabled.)

In other news, I decided to go ahead and start the Crossfire series and I really ended up enjoying Bared to You. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me to give it a try!!

5. I read and Loved Elizabeth Hoyt’s Thief of Shadows with a capital-L. Now she is spilling the deets on the next Maiden Lane book, Lord of Darkness, out in February.

He lives in the shadows. The mysterious masked avenger known as the Ghost of St. Giles, his only goal is to protect the innocent of London. Until the night he confronts a fearless lady pointing a pistol at his head—and realizes she is his wife . . .

Lady Margaret Reading has vowed to kill the Ghost of St. Giles—the man who murdered her one true love. Returning to London, and the man she hasn’t seen since their wedding day, Margaret does not recognize the man behind the mask. Fierce, commanding, and dangerous, the notorious Ghost of St. Giles is everything she feared he would be—and so much more . . .

When passion flares these two intimate strangers can’t keep from revealing more of themselves than they had ever planned. But when Margaret learns the truth—that the Ghost is her husband, Godric St. John—the game is up and the players must surrender . . . to the temptation that could destroy them both.

4. A tidbit for fans of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series.  According to her Facebook page, her next Dark Hunter book may be about Acheron’s brother Styxx.

This excites me. I’m ready to get back into the Acheron side of the DH world!!

3. Laura Wright’s 4th book in her Mark of the Vampire series, Eternal Beast,  is coming soon.  Now she has released a book trailer.

I’m excited to read Gray & Dillon’s story!  It’s out August 7.

2. I love Kelly Meding’s Dreg City books.  But I’ve never tried her MetaWars series.  There’s no time like the present, though. Pocket After Dark is featuring book one, Trance, for free on their website this month!

Kelly Meding’s war-ravaged Los Angeles is ground zero for the ultimate Meta human showdown in this sexy, action-packed new series.

Fifteen years ago, Teresa “Trance” West was a skilled telepath and a proud member of the Ranger Corps. But ever since the Rangers were inexplicably rendered powerless at the climax of the devastating Meta War, she’s bounced from one dead-end job to another. Now her powers have reappeared just as mysteriously as they vanished— only they’re completely transformed and more potent than ever. And they’re threatening to destroy her.

Trance heads to Los Angeles to track down the surviving Rangers and discover who restored her powers—and why—but a phantom enemy is determined to kill them before they can reassemble. As they dodge his deadly attacks and come to terms with their new role as heroes, Trance and the rest of the team set out to annihilate the sinister madman . . . only to discover their own powers are his greatest weapons.

If you like it, book two, Changeling, just came out June 26.

1. Here’s a big one for Guild Hunter fans. Nalini Singh is holding a giveaway for three ARCs of Archangel’s Storm.

I love the Guild Hunter covers, don’t you?? This is Jason’s book, out September 4th. Scoot over to her blog to enter. The contest runs through July 20th.

*Bonus Items*
Thea Harrison has revealed the cover art for her next Elder Races novella. And Moira Rogers has a new one in the Last Call series.

What do we think?  Hunter’s Season is out September 18th.  No release date yet for Firecracker.

Have a great weekend!

P.S. The contest winner is JenM.  Jen, send me an email and I’ll hook you up with your prize.

5 for Friday – June 29

Happy Friday, everybody! Or perhaps, a more appropriate salutation Happy Magic Mike Day!!  But I’ll get back to that in a minute.  First, I have to say it’s been a real hit and miss week for me in bookland. I read the first novella and full-length book in Jocelynn Drake’s upcoming Asylum Tales series.  I liked those, but everything else I read just kind of fell flat. I guess it was because I was coming off the high from all of those fabulous June 26th releases.  Who knows?  Now I’m feeling a bit uninspired to pick up anything new.  Ever have one of those weeks?  Anyway… I know something that will cheer me up…

5. At long last, the wait for Magic Mike is over.

Believe it or not, I will not be going to see this tonight. One of my buds is working, so we can’t go until tomorrow.  (*tears*) But Saturday night, we are hitting the theater, and I for one, am going with a blood alcohol content of at least .05.

And to show you my level of commitment to Joe, Matt and the boys, you should know that I am braving the displeasure of family members by missing an out-of-town birthday party on Saturday. Mr. Red Hot Books knows how much I’ve been looking forward to the movie and he has offered to take the kids for me! (That’s love, people.)

4. Hot on the heels of her Once Burned release, Jeaniene Frost is already talking about the next Vlad book.  The second installment in the Night Prince series will be titled Twice Tempted.  It’s scheduled for release March 19, 2013.  How am I going to wait that long?

3. Sherrilyn Kenyon has revealed the cover for her next League book. Check out the deets on Born of Fury:

Counted among the fiercest Andarion warriors ever born, Hauk is one of the five founding members of the Sentella- an organization that has declared war on the League that rules the Ichidian universe with an iron fist and terrifies it with an army of well-trained assassins. Hauk’s enemies are legion, but he fears nothing and no one. He will do whatever it takes to survive and protect his Sentella brethren.

Sumi Antaxas is one of the best assassins the League has ever trained. In her world, failure is not an option and she has never met a target she couldn’t execute. So when she’s assigned Hauk, she believes it’ll be a quick and easy mission.

But nothing is ever as simple as it seems, and Hauk is far better trained…

Born of Fury is out April 1. But if you don’t want to wait until 2013 for your next dose of the Ichidan universe, remember Maris’ story, Cloak & Silence, will be out December 15.

2. Everybody is talking about Sylvia Day’s Bared to You these days. I’ve heard many people call it the better alternative to FSoG.  I haven’t read it. Honestly, the 50 Shades comparison turned me off, but now I am wondering if that was a mistake.  (*sigh*)  Anyway, the cover for book two is out:

Reflected in You is out October 2.  The final book in the trilogy will be out in December.

1. Finally, with The Avengers and Magic Mike premieres moving into the rear-view, I’m wondering what I can look forward to next at the theater.  I’m leaning heavily toward the Total Recall redux.  I’m as sick of remakes as everyone else, but I have to admit, this looks pretty bad-ass.

After this, I will begin to fixate on Ryan Reynolds as Connor MacLeod in the Highlander reboot, FO’ SHO!I am picturing him in the kilt already!!

Have a great week… remember AAD in NOLA is less than six weeks away!!! If any featured authors want a last-minute spotlight, just let me know and I’ll be happy to host you here.

5 for Friday – June 22

This week has really flown by! Of course, I spent half of it getting a healthy dose of sunshine and extended family during my vacation at Fontainebleau State Park.  It was gorgeous out there and I was happily surprised that they had wi-fi in the cabins, so I wasn’t completely cut off from the blog and my Twitter addiction.  Hours of play knocked the kids out at night and mixed drinks did the same for the hubs, so I even got a little reading time in!  But there is no place like home and I’m glad to be back with Tumblr you guys.

5. Tuesday is a huge, huge release day.  It’s like the publishers decided to save up a ton of big books to drop on us all on the same day.  Some of the best coming out this week: Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost, Thief of Shadows by Elizabeth Hoyt, and Wicked Nights by Gena Showalter.

I also enjoyed Chasing Magic by Stacia Kane and Tempest’s Fury by Nicole Peeler.  Oh! And Consumed by Rebecca Zanetti.  But really, those are just the tip of the iceberg.  What big June 26th release tickles your fancy?  Tell me what you’re looking forward to *or* which books you wanna spread the word about.

4. A couple of tidbits from the awesome Jennifer Estep.  The next book in her Elemental Assassin book, Widow’s Web is out in August, but if you can’t stand the wait, she’s got Chapter 1 up on her blog. In the meantime, she has revealed the cover for her next YA Mythos Academy book Crimson Frost.

That one is out in January. And Estep says the name of the book after that will be Midnight Frost (out August 2013.)

3. The amazing Ilona Andrews is giving us a sneak peek of the next Edge book. You can find chapter 1 of Steel’s Edge up on her blog.  This is the last contracted book in the series from what I understand and I must say I am sad. I really was hoping for a Jack and/or a George book. (**sniff**) I shall keep hope alive.

2.  By now, everybody and their mama has seen the Breaking Dawn Part 2 trailer. But you could be living under a rock. Or just itching for a chance to talk about it.  Either way, here it is:

Yes. I will go see it.

1. And speaking of guilty pleasures. Dallas is back.

I was a huge fan of the original recipe Dallas, back in the 80’s.  Of course, I was around 10 years old and I didn’t even realize how much of it I didn’t “get” until I watched the episodes again during a CMT re-airing while I was in college.  So, have any of you seen the new version? Is it worth watching?  Here’s the trailer if you’ve missed it.  I need opinions before I commit.

**Bonus Item**

I saw this cover reveal on Harlequin’s Facebook page and Rrraw.

Badly disfigured Lady Isobel Dalceann has fought fiercely to defend her keep, with little thought for her safety. Why, then, has she let a stranger within her walls? While he threatens danger, his battered body marked by war mirrors her own scars and tempts her to put her faith in him.

Marc de Courtenay is a mercenary and a loner, although he is drawn to damaged—beautiful—Isobel. But in taking him into her highly defended, buttressed walls, she has unwittingly given him secrets that will enable him to betray her. What would she do if she were ever to find out who he really is…?

5 for Friday – June 15

As you read this, I am kicking back and (hopefully) enjoying my vacation.  It’s been a great week for reading. I finally treated myself to that Once Burned arc and it totally lived up to my expectations! The best from Jeaniene Frost I have read in a long time.  I also read Tempest’s Fury and am still reeling from the killer ending. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to read this weekend, but what I think makes a good vacation isn’t always what the rest of the family has in mind.  All I know is that if someone says “bathing suit” to me, they are getting a kick in the shin.

5. Karen Marie Moning has released the blurb for her new Fever-world book Iced.  Check it out:

The year is 1 AWC—After the Wall Crash. The Fae are free and hunting us. It’s a war zone out there, and no two days are alike. I’m Dani O’Malley, the chaos-filled streets of Dublin are my home, and there’s no place I’d rather be.Dani “Mega” O’Malley plays by her own set of rules—and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive.

Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the rare humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.

Dani’s ex–best friend, MacKayla Lane, wants her dead, the terrifying Unseelie princes have put a price on her head, and Inspector Jayne, the head of the police force, is after her sword and will stop at nothing to get it. What’s more, people are being mysteriously frozen to death all over the city, encased on the spot in sub-zero, icy tableaux.

When Dublin’s most seductive nightclub gets blanketed in hoarfrost, Dani finds herself at the mercy of Ryodan, the club’s ruthless, immortal owner. He needs her quick wit and exceptional skill to figure out what’s freezing Fae and humans dead in their tracks—and Ryodan will do anything to ensure her compliance.

Dodging bullets, fangs, and fists, Dani must strike treacherous bargains and make desperate alliances to save her beloved Dublin—before everything and everyone in it gets iced.”

I’m not sure how I feel about this.  Dani is obviously still quite young. There is no talk about romance –and I’m glad.  I can’t quite imagine Mac really trying to kill her. I’m not a big Dani fan, but I keep reminding myself that I didn’t like Mac in the beginning either, so I will definitely give it a chance. (I am a little scared, though.)

4. Maya Banks has revealed the cover for her upcoming Highlander Most Wanted.

It’s gorgeous, right? This is for the second book in her series Montgomery/Armstrong series, out in February.  Book one, Never Seduce a Scot, releases September 25th.

3. New Magic Mike trailer. Perhaps the best thing that has happened to me this week.  I know I shared it with many of you on Twitter, but it’s worth it to watch it again, yes?

It’s got bare asses and big dicks in silhouette. My life is complete. (The banner says July 11th, but it’s out June 29th.)

2. I don’t usually spend much time talking about YA or Twilight kind of stuff, but have you seen the Entertainment Weekly cover on the new Breaking Dawn movie?

It is positively creepy how much that little girl looks like she could be their child.  Wow.

1. I told myself I wouldn’t watch True Blood this season, but then I asked myself, What if Joe Manganiello gets naked?  Then, of course, I watched it.  And he kept all of his goddamn clothes on.  I saw Sheriff Andy’s bare white ass. I saw Sam’s extremely mooby moobs.  But Alcide didn’t even take off his shirt. What. The. Hell.  I am totally not watching next week.

But what if Joe Manganiello gets naked?  Who am I kidding?

A big thanks to everyone who participated in the Shameless Summer Hop this past week.  You guys are the best!

Until next time!
