Review: Brighter Than the Sun by Maya Banks

Reviewed by Jaimie

Brighter Than the Sun is the latest installment in the KGI series by Maya Banks, and fans of the series have been waiting for the last Kelly brother to meet his match.  While I loved the book and the main couple Joe and Zoe, it was the scenes with Sean and Rusty that got me the most.  Rusty broke my heart in this book and if possible, I’m dying for them to get their HEA even more now!!!  Okay, back to Joe and Zoe – there was such a sweetness between these two and it wasn’t hard to root for them.  When the end of the book came around I was surprised it was already over because I was enjoying the whole book that much.

Zoe Kildare has had a shitty life thus far.  Her mother left when she was only five, and being the only daughter of a drug kingpin who doesn’t give a crap about her, left her vulnerable to being used by the wrong guy.  She overhears a phone call where the man she thought she loved was talking about how he had been forced to sleep with her to get to her dad, and then casually mentions that he’s going to kill her since its clear the old man doesn’t care about her.  Scared and having nowhere to turn, she calls her one and only friend from college Rusty.  As it turns out, Rusty is a badass who can outdo even Donovan in the technology department.  Rusty creates a new identity complete with full background and then takes Zoe home with her to hide out and regroup. Review: Life of the Party by Kris Fletcher

Reviewed by Jaimie

Life of the Party is the first book in the Calypso Falls series by new-to-me author Kris Fletcher. If you are looking for a really intense or in-depth book to read this is not for you, but if you want a fast, predictable read, I would definitely recommend it.  The main couple was developed enough that I was invested in their future, the story moved along at a nice pace, and overall it was a fun read. Review: Holding on Tighter by Shayla Black

Reviewed by Jaimie

When Shayla Black announced that her Wicked Lovers series would be ending after Holding On Tighter I was crushed. This is one of my favorite series of all time and I have loved every single book.  Considering this installment is the 12th full length story, and there have been 6 novellas, that is saying a lot!  It’s almost impossible to pick a favorite couple or story from them all, but without a doubt Jolie is my favorite heroine from the series. Independent, successful and self-sufficient, aspects of her personality reminded me of myself and there was nothing I would change about her. [Read more…]

Review: Only Pleasure Part 3 by Lora Leigh

Reviewed by Jaimie

Lora Leigh doesn’t waste any time getting into the action for Part 3 of Only Pleasure. When Kia returns home, much to Chase’s dismay, they find that her apartment has been vandalized and all of her belongings trashed. The words Die Bitch and Whore are spray painted on her walls, and she is left terrified and confused. Chase believes immediately that it is Kia’s ex-husband behind the attacks, but she does not agree.

Knowing she cannot stay in her trashed apartment, Kia returns to Chase’s where he can keep a close eye on her. Although badly shaken by what has happened, Kia is determined to go to work and carry on with her life. I really admired her strength during all of these attacks. Most of all, she is scared for Chase’s safety and it is that simple act that seems to break through his defenses. He decides to wait until they figure out who is after her before he finally tells her he loves her. But at least he has admitted it to himself. [Read more…]

Review: Only Pleasure Part 2 by Lora Leigh

Reviewed by Jaimie

Part two of Only Pleasure by Lora Leigh begins with Kia questioning whether she can continue having a “pleasure only” relationship with Chase, while she is also beginning to tire of having Khalid present every time they are together. We also start to see glimpses of who Khalid’s heroine is, setting up for his future story.

Chase Falladay is continuing to deny that he is in love with Kia Rutherford and his brother is becoming increasingly concerned about him. Cameron knows that Chase is holding himself away from Kia because of Moriah and he feels a sense of guilt over that. [Read more…]

Review: Only Pleasure Part 1 by Lora Leigh

Reviewed by Jaimie

Only Pleasure is the 10th book in the Bound Hearts series by Lora Leigh, and was reissued in three parts like Wicked Pleasure was earlier this year. Only Pleasure picks up six months after Chase was forced to kill Moriah Brockheim to protect his twin brother and his fiancé Jaci. The book starts off with the Epilogue which happens two years earlier. Chase, in his position as a protector for Ian Sinclair’s club, is forced to meet with Kia, the woman who fascinates him like no other and ask her to humiliate herself. After Kia’s husband assaulted her and tried to rape her, she confided in a friend about the exclusive club and that rumor was spreading fast. Chase cannot allow him that to happen, but he vows to do everything he can to protect her.

Chase Falladay is drowning in overwhelming guilt. He blames himself for not being aware that his brother Cameron was being pimped out by their evil aunt, and he knows that Cameron said nothing to protect him. Adding to that guilt, he considered Moriah a friend and he didn’t have any idea that she had been plotting his brother’s downfall. When he and Khalid see Kia in a bar alone one night he loses the fight to stay away from her, and he convinces himself that he can keep it strictly about the pleasure. [Read more…]

Review: Hunt the Dawn by Abbie Roads

Reviewed by Jaimie

Hunt the Dawn is the second book in the Fatal Dreams series by Abbie Roads.  The first book was reviewed by Jen and it wasn’t for her, but I really enjoyed it so I jumped in to read the second installment.  In order for me to enjoy a book with psychic elements, the story must be really good, and I liked Hunt the Dawn even more than Race the Darkness.  The heroine has survived hell and come out on top and while she lets the hero help her, she is a badass in her own right.

We were introduced to Lathan Montgomery in Race the Darkness, but very little was revealed about him.  With the ability to see other people’s memories through scent, he is a very valuable asset to the FBI. Unfortunately, this ability hits him at times when he cannot control it and the sensations are overwhelming.  This has led him to a very lonely life.  All that changes when he comes across a scene where a woman is being attacked, and he intervenes. Review: Kept by Maya Banks

keptReviewed by Jaimie

After my intense dislike for the heroine in the first two books in this series, I was really worried about this one. At some point I’m going to go back and re-read those two and see if my opinion changes but in the meantime, I definitely plan to keep going with this series. Thankfully I cannot say enough good things about Kept, the third installment of the Enforcers series by Maya Banks. Hayley and Silas were a great match for each other and I loved them both! I think Silas is my new favorite book boyfriend. [Read more…]

Review: Billionaire on the Loose by Jessica Clare

billionaire-on-the-looseReviewed by Jaimie

Billionaire on the Loose is the latest book in the Billionaires and Bridesmaids series by Jessica Clare. The books in this series all take place around the same time so there were some things going on that we had seen in the earlier books as well. This installment revolves around Loch, who is related to Griffin and Princess Alex from earlier installments, and Gretchen’s techie friend Taylor. While these types of stories are predictable, that’s one of the things I like about them.

Taylor lives her life behind a computer and until recently that was fine by her. Lately she’s not finding the enjoyment that she used to when she plays her online games and works her technical support job from the comfort of her home. Part of the reason is that she has an online stage 4 clinger that threatens suicide if she’s away from the computer for more than 5 minutes. [Read more…]

Review: Dare You To Run by Dawn Ryder

dare-you-to-runReviewed by Jaimie

Dare You to Run is the second book in the Unbroken Heroes series by Dawn Ryder, and while I normally don’t like the whole leave them to save them trope, this one worked.  I haven’t read the first installment in the series, although I do intend to read it now, but I didn’t feel like I was missing too much.  There is definitely a back story that was playing out, but it wasn’t the focus of the book so I was able to get by without missing it.  The story revolves around Vitus and Damascus, two people that come from very different worlds, and overall I really enjoyed it.
