Miranda is a hotel maid as well as working a bar job and studying for a business degree. She has no time, literally, for douche bag guys. Which is exactly what Jake is. He’s the guy staying in the penthouse she’s cleaning, and he’s a famous hockey star and a real piece of work. A womanizer with a crappy attitude, he decides (after seeing her once) that Miranda will be his next conquest. He throws away the phone number of the stripper he just bedded and buys an economy pack of condoms just for our girl, then stalks her to her bar job. Classy guy.

Unfortunately for Jake, he’s also been ordered to date the boss’s crazy AF daughter following an entanglement with her. If he doesn’t do it, he’ll be benched. He’s the captain, so though this seemed pretty unlikely, it’s the plot (and it serves him right). [Read more…]

Review: In Deep by Brenda Rothert

This is a sweet and straightforward love story, set in the town of Lovely. The hero and heroine were both in book one, but this is standalone so you don’t need to have read that.

April has taken a job in a home for pregnant teens, run by her best friend Ivy. She’s somewhat mousy-looking and not particularly experienced with guys, and she attracts the attention of Mason Lockhart, Ivy’s fella’s brother. He’s hot, a happy whore, and at first dismisses April casually without realizing she’s within earshot. Review: Deep Down by Brenda Rothert

Ah I love a cute scene with a hero who’ll do anything to get his girl. Reed drops to his knees in a cafe and belts out a line of “Build Me Up Buttercup” to convince Ivy to go out with him. It made her smile and it put a big grin on my face too. But that was after a rocky start to this small-town romance.

Ivy flees her home city after graduation, packing her pregnant ass into a car her friend gave her and driving until she finds somewhere to stay. Her pregnancy follows a vile rape, which though not covered in intimate graphic detail, was enough for me to cringe and grimace my way through the scene. [Read more…]
