Review: Renovating a Heart by Deanndra Hall

renovating a heartReviewed by Shelly

As I enjoyed Book 2 in Deanndra Hall’s Love Under Construction series I had such high hopes for Book 3. I was intrigued by the jerk that is Steve McCoy and Kelly Markham whose only claim to fame is her size ‘G’ bra size. I’ll give my customary warning – if you’ve not read any of the three preceding books, I most likely will be providing some spoilers, hopefully not too much. [Read more…]

Review: Tearing Down Walls by Deanndra Hall

tearing down wallsReviewed by Shelly

I liked this installment in the series a lot more than I liked Laying a Foundation. Going into that first story, I think I set my expectations too high and I was sorely disappointed, but I wanted to give the series and the author another go and adjusted my expectations. I’m glad I did. The character development here worked much better for me, as I actually got to see change and growth. The pacing was good and the shenanigans, subterfuge and suspense were enough to keep me interested; I must say that this Walters family seem to have a tremendous amount of violence targeted towards them. Picking up directly after Laying a Foundation, this story tells the tale of Tony Walters cousin Vic Cabrizzi and his paramour Laura Butler. If you’ve not read either the introductory novella or the first novel in the series, I will most likely reveal spoilers. [Read more…]

I read Laying a Foundation after reading the prequel, “The Groundbreaking.” I don’t think it’s necessary to read these two stories in that order because “The Groundbreaking,” a novella, only introduces the characters who are going to be in the series. It delivered a nice bit of background for each main character but I wouldn’t say that it’s required reading for full enjoyment.

This self-published piece is a plus novel; my ePub version was about 320 pages of single spaced story, there’s a lot of story to tell. This is my first story where the hero and heroine are 50+ as I’ve purposefully stayed away from them but the blurb was captivating enough that I went outside of my norm. [Read more…]

Review: The Groundbreaking by Deanndra Hall

groundbreakingReviewed by Shelly

Although this was released after the first story in the series, it’s meant to provide prefatory information about the characters that Deanndra Hall intends to include in her four part series. Basically, this novella guides readers in the direction that Hall is going and we the readers get a snippet in the background of the characters in her Love Under Construction Series. If you’re hoping that there’s any sort of romance in this one, there’s isn’t. It’s gritty and in some places dark and violent. One of the things I’m looking forward to in this series is that, I think, the majority of the characters are over 40 and they’re all somehow connected to the Walters family.
