Review: Dirty Money by Jessica Clare

Reviewed by Jaimie

After starting with the second book in the series and moving backwards, I found that I enjoyed this one even more than Dirty Scoundrel. Jessica Clare’s new series Roughneck Billionaires centers around brothers who happen to have land that was sitting on top of a lucrative oil well. Overnight they go from scruffy, paycheck to paycheck lives to billionaires. Dirty Money is the first book in the series and tells Boone and Ivy’s story.

Boone Price has worked hard and is now enjoying the privileges that come along with being disgustingly rich and hot. He may come across as having a lot of swagger, but Boone just wants to be accepted. He sets his sites on the wealthy and successful realtor who he imagines will make a perfect trophy wife. Review: Dirty Scoundrel by Jessica Clare

As a fan of Jessica Clare I find that I enjoy the “predictable” nature of her books. I like her writing style and the way she draws out her stories, and this one was no exception. Dirty Scoundrel is the second book in the Roughneck Billionaires series and I must admit I read out of order. I picked this one up first and then went back and read the first book because I liked it so much.

Clay Price is a disgustingly rich man who tries to come off as cold-hearted. He may have found success in the business world, but his personal life is not the greatest. After proposing to the love of his life years earlier, and being turned down, Clay threw himself into his business. Now he has the woman who broke his heart years ago right where he wants her. Review: Billionaire on the Loose by Jessica Clare

billionaire-on-the-looseReviewed by Jaimie

Billionaire on the Loose is the latest book in the Billionaires and Bridesmaids series by Jessica Clare. The books in this series all take place around the same time so there were some things going on that we had seen in the earlier books as well. This installment revolves around Loch, who is related to Griffin and Princess Alex from earlier installments, and Gretchen’s techie friend Taylor. While these types of stories are predictable, that’s one of the things I like about them.

Taylor lives her life behind a computer and until recently that was fine by her. Lately she’s not finding the enjoyment that she used to when she plays her online games and works her technical support job from the comfort of her home. Part of the reason is that she has an online stage 4 clinger that threatens suicide if she’s away from the computer for more than 5 minutes. [Read more…]

Review: The Billionaire’s Favorite Mistake by Jessica Clare

billionaires favorite mistakeReviewed by Jaimie

The Billionaire’s Favorite Mistake is the fourth book in the Billionaires and Bridesmaids series by Jessica Clare. Despite the whole billionaire thing, the description of this one really appealed to me. I love the accidental pregnancy trope, so despite not having read any of the other books in this series, I dove right in. Thankfully it didn’t feel like I had missed anything major by not having read the previous books. I’m not going to say this book will hit my all time favorites list, but overall it was a fast read with an entertaining story and a really sweet couple. [Read more…]

Review: The Wrong Billionaire’s Bed by Jessica Clare

wrong billionaires bedReviewed by Jaimie

The Wrong Billionaire’s Bed is the third book in the Billionaire Boys Club by Jessica Clare.  This is another book from my backlist that I’ve been putting off, partially because the whole billionaire thing is so overdone lately (how are there soooo many single, hot billionaires??).  I’m glad I put my pessimism aside and gave this one a try, because it was a really sweet story with some steamy hot chemistry between the couple (billionaire stuff aside).

Audrey Petty is the dependable, successful twin to her sister’s chaotic counterpart.  She’s been harbouring a crush on Cade Archer (another billionaire…sigh) since childhood but knows its a long shot.  It appears she’s finally going to get her shot to spend time with him alone at his remote cabin.  However when she walks in, it’s not Cade she finds there waiting. Janell’s Favorite Books of 2015

As I look over the books I’ve read this year, I think it’s safe to say that this is the year that I stepped away from the ballrooms and carefully explored male/male romance. Also, I learned that not all billionaires are horrible alphas, which is a lesson that we all might need to learn one day. [Read more…]

Review: The Billionaire Takes a Bride by Jessica Clare

billionaire takes a brideReviewed by Janell

I think I’ve established that I love this author. She is allowed to write billionaires because they aren’t the usual demanding, silent, alpha types. This book parallels in time the prior book, because both heroines are bridesmaids for Gretchen, the heroine of another book that I haven’t read. It’s a little complicated if you want to keep everyone straight, but you really don’t need to. You can read this as a standalone. [Read more…]

Review: The Taming of the Billionaire by Jessica Clare

taming of the billionaireReviewed by Janell

This is a loose adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew. Edie, the shrew, is an animal behaviorist, helping people with their cats. It doesn’t pay well, and she adopts almost every unwanted cat she sees, so she is practically a stereotypical cat lady. But as she sees it, “Just because girls happened to like cats didn’t mean they were hideous unloveable creatures.” Because of a ski accident, she has a busted up knee, so she wears orthopedic shoes and limps and has to sit and stretch her leg a lot. Her beautiful sister, Bianca, acts as Edie’s assistant and driver. [Read more…]

Review: Pleasure Games by Jessica Clare

pleasure gamesReviewed by Janell

This is another novella in the Games series, and the most recently published (come on, Book 6!). It’s also part of the Invitation to Eden series, which is written by multiple authors and centers around a private island in the Caribbean with an exotic hotel. It’s probably populated by billionaires and sex clubs, I don’t know.

The “show” in this story is called Pleasures of Eden, and it’s a dating show like The Bachelor. Juno is an artisan glassblower who has a stall at a Renaissance faire. I’m going to stop right here and tell you that Juno’s job was my favorite part of this story. I liked to hear her bemoan the costs of silica and metal oxides, explain how she wore pants and no makeup and put her hair up because she was close to a furnace all day, get inspired by the world around her. It’s just such a cool-sounding job. [Read more…]

Review: Body Games by Jessica Clare

body gamesReviewed by Janell

Continuing my glomming of every book in this series, this story is set around another edition of Endurance Island, the fictionalized version of Survivor. Annabelle was a contestant on a previous EI, where she fell in love with Kip. She spent her time on the island cuddling with him, while Kip played her for her jury vote and interviewed that she was gullible and stupid. A year later, Annabelle is known as the Idiot Slut. Groupies come to the restaurant where she waitresses to see “bimbo Annabelle and her slutty McSlutterton boobs.”

She’s trying to move past it when the producers call. Would she like to compete again on Endurance Island: Power Players? Hell no, she says. But what if she had a guaranteed payout, and she could redeem her reputation, and beat Kip? Since her real life kind of sucks, she decides to take another chance. But she’s learned from her mistakes — she won’t wear a lot of makeup or skimpy clothes so she won’t appear slutty, and she definitely will not fall for or kiss any guy. [Read more…]
