Review: La Vie en Rose by Lydia Michaels

La Vie en RoseReviewed by Shelly

I’ve read a few stories by this author and they’ve all been interesting in their own right. I’ve not liked them all with equal fervor, but the themes have varied and that’s what made me read this. The blurb was loose in the description of the sequence of events, and there’s no hint of the heroine or hero’s age but I should have known. The stories (Breaking Perfect and the Surrender Trilogy) I’ve read by Michaels have always had a young heroine while the hero is a tad bit older, but the hero has always had wealth to fall back on. I say that to say this – what happened to Emma is tragic, it really is, but if I had my druthers (which I don’t) I would have had the financial aspect be that additional burden that we mere mortals all struggle with. Review: Coming Home by Lydia Michaels

coming homeReviewed by Jaimie

Coming Home is the final book in the Surrender trilogy by Lydia Michaels, and after the underwhelming second book, I was a little concerned. Thankfully Ms. Michaels turned things around, and the series was finished off in a satisfying way.

You may recall that at the end of Breaking Out, Scout has discovered the deal between Lucien and Parker, and she smartly walked away from them both. As the story picks up, Scout is trying to make it on her own, with a plan to start her own business and a plan to learn to read and write. [Read more…]

Breaking Out is the second book in the Surrender series by Lydia Michaels. If you’ve read my review of Falling In you will know that I loved the first book and couldn’t wait to dive into the second one. Unfortunately, this one didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The hero just didn’t sit right with me, and I was very frustrated with a lot of it.

As you might recall, at the end of Falling In, Evelyn and Lucian were happy and in love, but the issue of his promise to Parker was hanging over Lucian’s head. At the very end of the book, Parker is offered a job by Lucian’s former best friend (and Evelyn hater) Slade, and we know that’s going to throw a monkey wrench in the story. [Read more…]

Review: Falling In by Lydia Michaels

I am having so much luck going back and reading books that have been sitting on my TBR pile for a while, and this one is no different.  Falling In is the first book in the Surrender Trilogy by Lydia Michaels, and man, this was an amazing book.  I have to say it is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time, and I cannot wait to dive into the other two!!

Evelyn Keats (Scout) has lived a life that most people would find hard to imagine.  Growing up homeless with a drug addict for a mother, Scout is determined that she will not wind up another Jane Doe, dead from the elements.  Landing a job at the Patras Hotel is the first step towards security.  While cleaning one of the executive suites, Scout accidentally knocks important business papers off the desk and is caught by the hotel owner. Review: Breaking Perfect by Lydia Michaels

You know when you have to do something to get your head out of the last dumb thing you read? Well, that might not have happened to you, but that’s how I ended up this story that would have not normally crossed my to-be-read list. I was just on the verge of giving up this category of stories when I decided to give this one a shot – thanks goodness for reading group recommendations. This is the second m/m/f I have read where there’s a married couple, the first one was years ago and that one didn’t work for me because of the way the third was introduced into the relationship – I absolutely abhor cheating and will not willingly read a story where that’s indicated in the blub. So that being said, I read this one and hoped for the best. Hallelujah, my hopes were not wasted. [Read more…]
