This is a military-flavored romance, with the college-age protagonists putting it firmly in the NA category. Ember Howard is our heroine, and we open the story to the death of her father, an army doctor. She answers the door from the knock of death, and her and her family are devastated by the loss. It’s what every military family dreads, and it’s happened to them.

It’s smack bang in the holiday season, and it’s Ember’s birthday too. Dashing out in a mad panic to the store to pick up a cake to distract her younger brother, she bumps into Josh Walker, a guy she had a crush on as a teenager in high school. Josh was a bad boy, but is now her younger brother’s hockey coach, his own hockey career ended by injury. He’s upset by the news about her dad too. [Read more…]

Review: Nova by Rebecca Yarros

A second chance romance with a backdrop of extreme sports on a giant floating university in the Pacific  – who couldn’t fall in love with that?

I was excited for this book for a long time before it came out. It’s the second story following the Renegades and the women (and I guess men at some point) who love them. The crew are extreme sports professionals, winners of X games medals and all round badasses, but in their early twenties, they’ve got to finish college alongside pursuing their sports dreams. Review: Wilder by Rebecca Yarros

Leah Baxter has signed up for a year studying on a cruise ship with the Study At Sea program. I’ve never heard of this, but I think lots of rich kids for a year on an ocean cruiser, partying at each port whilst doing a little studying in between.

Our girl is no party animal, nor is she rich. She has hidden herself away for the past two years because of a Bad Event, but wants to get into a graduate course in International Relations, and the study program will do nicely to help towards that. [Read more…]
